PART “A” A FLAG ON EVERY HOUSE
How to get started;
Every Assembly and every council should discuss this program at an officers meeting. If you think this is something your council or assembly is interested in as a future project then bring it before the general membership. Get a chairman and a committee as soon as possible and begin to outline your ideas and approach.
This does not necessarily have to be a profit driven project: its number one priority is in the interest of patriotism.
Here are some options:
1) Your council or assembly can purchase the flag sets in large enough quantities to keep the price of resale down.
2) If you elect not to purchase the flag sets, you can just make the information available as to where they may be purchased at discounted prices.
3) You could try to sell flags or flag sets. They make great gifts for a birthday, Christmas or just for that patriotic someone.
Flags and or flag sets can be purchased at discounted prices of approximately 20% for Knights of Columbus Councils or Assemblies at:
Apollo Flag Company or Gates Flag Company
Route 46 in Totowa Route 21 Clifton
Contact: Gary Potemzoni Contact: Bill Mc Gittegan
Flag sets come complete with 6’ pole and a 3’ x 5’ Nylon flag and mounting brackets.
PART “B” A FLAG AND A POLE ON ALL NON-PROFIT SITES
How to get started;
Your committee should seek out a site that does not fly the flag and offer to have a flag pole with a flag installed at no cost to them. For example: Churches, Schools, Rectories and Convents etc.
If you do not have the funds available, you will have to do a fund raiser or solicit funds by some other means.

PART “C” AVENUE OF FLAGS
How to get started;
Every Assembly and every council should discuss this program at an officers meeting. If you think this is something your council or assembly is interested in as a future project then bring it before the general membership. Get a chairman and a committee as soon as possible. This program requires the approval and cooperation of your township Officials, DPW, Department of Recreation and of course a proper site or area. This is not a profit driven project: its number one priority is in the interest of patriotism.
This is a very aggressive project that definitely requires a large committee who are dedicated to patriotism. It requires organization, team work and people who are willing to work hard. The fruits of your labor are very rewarding.
There is a model program already in progress that we can draw ideas from. It is being done in Clifton on the City Hall Building grounds. The committee Chairman is John Biegal and the project is in its 6th year. John says he will be happy to help anyone who wants to start this project in their town. The “850” flags are displayed five times a year Memorial Day, July 4th, Flag Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day weather permitting. We the public are invited to view the “850” flag display at no charge. It certainly is a great tribute our Veterans and what a beautiful sight it is. Each area is color coded and the name of a Veteran is on every flag inscribed on a gold nameplate and every name is documented so it is very easy to locate every flag. The team starts to put the flags out at 7am, and usually finish by 8:15am; that’s moving fast. The flags are taken down later that day; they do not stay out overnight. They are rolled up on their polls and put into a plastic protective bag and stored in a shed until they are needed again.
Basically the way this program works is; to be eligible you must be a resident of that particular town and also a veteran to have a flag flown in your honor. An application must be filled out accompanied by a copy of your discharge papers or DD214, proof of residency and a check in the amount of $100. The cost of everything needed for one set-up is approximately $80. The remaining $20 goes into a dedicated bank account to be used for tools and equipment for the project and future flag replacements.

PART “D” Lapel Flag Pin
In the interest of “Patriotism and Uniformity”, the Worthy Master has adopted a flag pin to be worn by all Fourth Degree Sir Knights.
He is asking us to support this as part of Fly the Flag Properly Program.
a) For the sake of uniformity so we all are wearing the same size flag whether in or out of regalia. We should all wear this flag on our left lapel above our “Standard 4th Degree Emblem” (the one we received at our exemplification).
b) In the interest of “Patriotism”, we should try to sell them to our friends and family.
The cost of the pin is approximately $1.00 to $1.25 depending on the quantity you purchase
They make great giveaways at a PFN dinner dance, Memorial
Mass, Communion Breakfast, etc.
Suggestion: Our Assembly (Bishop O’Connor) is planning to give a flag to
every member who attends our regular meeting.
